The pageant now on its 7th year, and a celebration of Filipino culture is widely known for its humanitarian efforts. Over the years, it has helped raise funds and awareness for various relief efforts both here and overseas.
The organization has worked together with American Red Cross for hurricane Katrina, typhoon Reming and California widlfire relief efforts; White Ribbon Campaign with Califonria Senator Leland Yee. The campaign is a coalition of men working to end violence against women.
The pageant has been held in San Francisco (2003 to 2006), New York (2007) and Los Angeles (2008).
Among the celebrities who participated in the event over the years were American Idols David Hernandez and Jordan Segundo, Kristine Johnson (CBS 2 New York anchorwoman), Ali Ewoldt (from the Broadway hit Les Miserables), Broadway Star Stephanie Reese and Hollywood singer-actress Sharon Leal of Dreamgirls and Why Did I Get Married fame, as well as dozens of Filipino and Fil-American celebrities nationwide.
Over 20 contestants would be competing for the title as they show off their best in Barong Tagalog (Philippines` national costume); swimwear, tuxedos and one-on-one interviews.
Although not advertised, this pageant is mainly "for gays" and if you compete, be ready to be drooled over by a bunch of cross dressers and make-up artists who will try to group you.
Just be honest here.
In terms of professionalism on a scale of 1-10? I give this pageant a 5.
Best of luck contestants and organizers.
