Since the release of Apple Inc.’s iPad, many tried to match up with the breathtaking touch-screen-based computing gadget, causing the battle for the best alternative tablet PC to begin.

 

When you browse the online market, you will find a multitude of these China-made tablets and normally you’d rather not spend a moment checking out these gizmos because of their inferior properties. Yet most of us are not capable of enjoying these new technologies that is why resorting to the cheaper quality devices is the better option.

 

And I am one of the privileged few to at least find a way to keep a budget while I delight in the glory of putting my hands over a new tech-toy.

 

Owning one of these Android-based devices will never escape the likes of techno geeks like me. Firstly, I was rooting to get one of those smartphones but I still have a working mobile phone on hand so it wouldn’t be wise to spend on getting a duplicate. Plus, I just discovered new things about my 3-year old phone that I haven’t known since I got it out of the box.

 

Before I had my 7-inch tablet, I made a list of prerequisites before buying an additional tech tool to add to my collection. Somehow, I narrowed down my choices which gave me a chance to be a wise spender.

 

1. Recent Hardware. It is important that the tablet will be sporting the latest chipsets so I can make better use of it to run the latest Android Market apps.
2. Up-to-date software. Since it runs with the latest parts in the market, it would be better if it will be running under the newest software. Though some Android users prefer the Gingerbread or Honeycomb versions, I decided to take a first-hand experience of the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS or Android 4.0)
3. Positive reviews. Take advantage of the internet and find some user evaluations regarding a specific item. It took me several days to find which product works well before finally getting one for me. Other than reviews, you can also find information about usual hardware issues and ways to resolve it. Information like this can guide you in selecting the best tablet for your needs.
4. Product support. You won’t be expecting full support for generic tablets in the market but at least there is some where to point you in the right direction in resolving arising problems while you use your new device. Look out for community forums and firmware update sources.
5. Price and packages. Though most China-made tablets will carry the same price, dealers and retailers will sell them with various additional offers like free accessories and good customer service. Better look out for one before shedding off some cash.

 

After finally getting one, I was more than satisfied in spending at least a $100 for my own “droid.” A bang for the buck as everyone would say. Comparing the iPad with these little ones is too farfetched. Fairly, these devices won’t last a lifetime but at least will serve their purpose before finally dying out on us.

 

I bought my 7-inch Android tablet at Centris (Quezon City) through an online market portal (www.tipidpc.com). The seller’s positive reviews, good product knowledge and after sales support were among the factors that helped me purchase a good working unit of my own.
