Willing Willie in hiatus after more endorsers pulled off ads

by Alethea, on Sat, Apr 9 2011 | No Comments

The ever feisty Willie still is in hot pursuit over his critics and advertisers who pulled out advertisements ads from TV 5 network and his show. Many more organizations and celebrities criticized Willing-Willie for allowing a 6 year old kid to dance a garish number inappropriate for his age. But amidst all these, Willie is still unfazed.

The Commission on Human Rights and Department of Social Welfare and Development already voiced out their condemnation stating that what happened to the 6 year old Janjan Estrada is one form of child abuse. Now, social action arm of the Catholic Church, the CBCP’s National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA) expressed their displeasure over the event. They stated that Jan-Jan dancing like a stripper has brought shame to the child, parents and members of media in exchange for P10,000. The number of advertisers who pulled out their ads from the show and from the network also increased. Taking the steps of Mang Inasal are Cebuana Lhuiller, CDO, Del Monte and Procter and Gamble which suspended their advertising on the show earlier this week.

The incident is currently under investigation by the MTRCB but even then, Willie is unperturbed as he slams the members who might be playing bias on him. His hot tirade goes:

“Wala pong suspension ang MTRCB. Wag kayong magalit sa MTRCB. Nagpalit po sila ng tatlong board. Bakit? Lahat po ng mga yun, involved sa ABS-CBN. Yung isang abogado, asawa nya sa ABS. Yung isa po, asawa rin nya sa ABS. Si Miss Leah Navarro, biruin nyo, hinusgahan na ako sa tweet, tapos isa sya sa mga board. May husga ka na sa akin, tapos kasama ka sa board?”

Willie has been in sour relationship with ABS CBN after his former TV network fired him last year and haunted him with cases for emulating his previous show in ABS and showcasing it in TV 5. Willie admitted that he and the network were hurt by the cancellation of ads in his show but he remains determined to go on with the show.

With all this chaos piling up on Willing Willie, TV 5 deemed to put the show off air for 2 weeks starting on Monday as Willie announced that he would temporarily take a leave from the program. Willie announced that he would take this time to ponder if he would return to the show or entirely halt his showbiz career.

Mang Inasal withdraw ad placements in Willing Willie

What goes around comes around. As for Willie Revillame, it came around with a big bang as his latest stint caused quite a great loss for the network. Lately, his show had been widely condemned due to child abuse allegations involving a seven year old boy who was asked to dance an age inappropriate striptease number for the show.

In the show, Willie egged 7-year-old Jan-jan Estrada to dance a provocative macho dancing dance number. This stirred outrage among the viewers who asked for advertisers to boycott the show Willing Willie in TV-5. Willie lashed backed on his critics and threatened the advertisers that if ever they do so, many poor Filipinos would not anymore patronize their product. His threat fell into deaf ears. Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) is one of the show’s biggest advertisers to withdraw their Mang Inasal’s ad placements. JFC promotes child friendly food chain and it would not do good for their image to be connected in a show with destructive child abuse issue.

The decision was announced by JFC’s Corporate Media on its Facebook page last Saturday, April 2, 2011: “Mang Inasal will be holding off their ad placements from Willing Willie this week. We will continue to monitor the issue and await the results of the investigation. The whole JFC group will remain committed to upholding the welfare of children.‚Äù

Many critics were jubilant with the JFC’s decision. For them, it is one way of teaching Willie his lesson. They alleged that Willie had been exploiting the poor and using them to boost the show’s rating. They also stated that if Willie is indeed sincere in helping the poor, he does not need to air his deeds on TV for all to know. One critic stated that he is acting more like a politician than a celebrity. This critic pointed out that the show did not cover helping a large number of marginal people. Instead, it had helped Willie amass great wealth and increased his boastfulness. Viewers suggested that producers and big bosses of the networks should provide ethics guideline to their hosts. Amidst the growing fan tensions, MTRCB interfered and allotted a scheduled review on the episode for appropriate actions.

Many people were touched and many were also in great outrage in the latest controversy that hounds TV host Willie Revillame. In his latest mishap, Willie Revillame was much criticized of how much he had ridiculed and embarrassed a 6-year old kid Jan-jan Estrada in his show, Willing Willie.

During a certain segment in the show, Willie asked Jan-Jan Estrada to perform a dance moves similar to a macho dancer in front of the crowd. His gyrating and lewd moves are deemed inappropriate for a kid his age yet the audience and the host were greatly entertained by such improper dance routine. They keep on laughing and cheering even if the boy already burst into tears as he obviously do not want to dance on national television. Many TV viewers were struck with pity on the boy over the callousness of how the host handled the crying child and the audience sees unperturbed as they keep on laughing at the crying boy.

The kid as also forced to dance the routine five times despite his sobbing but he obligingly complied. As a result, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman wrote on Monday, March 28, a letter of protest to TV5 management, headed by its chairman Manny Pangilinan. The letter of protest bears the accusation of child abuse against the host and the higher ups of TV-5 in the statement:

“The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) condemns the emotional abuse and humiliation bestowed on a six-year-old child contestant, during the March 12, 2011 episode of the Willing Willie show aired on TV5.‚Äù

A couple of lawsuit is already on Willie’s neck. The least that he could do is quit adding up on the file of cases that is already tailing him.

If you where on Shalani Soledad’s shoe, what will you do if Willie Revillame courted you? Certainly, we may have different responses on this. Very intriguing, and definitely many will raise their eyebrow to such rumor. Ex-girlfriend of President Noy Aquino, Councilor Shalani Soledad has been Willie’s latest controversial co-host on ABC 5’s variety show, Willing Willie, being simulcast daily. However, this remains yet to be seen, whether her venturing in showbiz could influence her being an appointed government official. Many people actually are anxious to know, if is it true that politicians who join television while on term are prohibited in accepting another responsibility.

With their tandem, many opinions were heard, like, “Why not? Willie is a very potential man and extremely wealthy.” Some also said, “No way, decent woman like Shalani is intelligent and will not go for pompous and womanizer guy like Willie.” Well, it is up to Shalani anyway, “Eat your heart out intrigera!” Actually, this started when talk circulated, that the two were engaging and nothing can stop Willie from endearing her. However, both sides have confirmed this issue. The “panliligaw” rumor was indeed true, the aunt of Valenzuela City elect councilor Shalani Soledad, Baby Soledad has confirmed it through text messages that her niece and Willie are not yet on, but Willie is really courting Shalani. However, this affirmation was made prior to the latest issue in Boracay. With Willie’s status, do you think he cannot persuade the young and pretty Konsehala of his intentions?

Recently, on New Year’s Eve, the two controversial pair, Willie and Shalani was spotted together on a party at Discovery Shores in Boracay. The sweet tandem was seen around 1:30 dawn of January 1, 2011. Right after the firework display at the said resort, both were visible and seemed playing beautiful music together. Eventually, the two arrived in Boracay together with Willie’s entourage as usual. With them are Chavit Singson and actor John Estrada with wife to be Priscilla Mierelles. Also sighted was Richard Gutierrez who checked in on the same resort that time. The party was filled with fun and drinks. A source has said that, Willing Willie star Willie Revillame, 49 and Shalani Soledad, 30 along with their companions docked via Revillame’s yacht, M/Y Wow Cruiser at Boracay shore on December 30, anchored beside the yacht of Chavit Singson. Apparently, Willie and Shalani sung “Ikaw na nga” on his show, People are wondering, is this for real already.
