Exporting a Noon Time TV Show

by Melody Claire, on Mon, Jul 23 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of joshoncreek.wordpress.com I grew up watching Eat Bulaga and even witnessed several transfers of this variety show to different studios and TV channels then finally settling on a firm location for more than a decade now.

TVJ’s (Tito Vic and Joey) awesome threesome chemistry has been always admired by their fans. Several TV personalities tried to match the trio yet the Iskul Bukol actors always paved their way to leading all variety shows by hosting Eat Bulaga. This acts as a solid proof of their strong brotherhood as they call it “Dabarkads.”

The three-decade TV show has skyrocketed to new heights bringing “isang libo’t isang tuwa” not onlyfrom Aparri to Jolo but also to our neighbor country, Indonesia.

Porting the famous Eat Bulaga to an Indonesian local channel brings good news. This shows that not only does Eat Bulaga showcase quality TV program but it also makes Filipinos proud of being known internationally.

Seeing a South-Asian counterpart of my favorite lunch-time program left me confused at first. I can’t believe my eyes watching Eat Bulaga hosted by a different bunch of people conversing in a different language but with the same format and same energy as seen on our very own Pinoy TV.

Though I did not understand the language, it brings happiness to my heart that something Filipino has not only touched every Juan but even our foreign counterparts, enough to have them copy our beloved noon time show. Eat Bulaga really made it big time!

Though EB-Indonesia is still fairly new, we hope that the EB dabarkads will not stop in opening more doors to spread cheer and bring hope to the rest of the world.

Eat Bulaga! launches coffee table book for its first 30 years

In an exclusive interview of Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) last October 6 at the Whitespace, Chino Roces Ave. Extension, Makati City; Eat Bulaga’s main host, Joey de Leon tearfully said that he was proud to launch their coffee table book entitled: Eat Bulaga! Ang Unang Tatlong Dekada (The First 3 Decades).

The manuscript chronicles the longest-running noon time show’s humble beginnings when it first aired at RPN-9 on July 30, 1979 and moved on to other TV networks (ABS-CBN and GMA- 7). Come what may, this most loved show never fails to entertain the masses six times a week without fail in all its 32 years.

Some chapters of the book are dedicated to former co-hosts Rio Diaz and Francis Magalona. De Leon even jokingly said that the late Apple’s Steve Jobs was coined to say, “Magpapahinga na ako. Ang tarantadong Tito, Vic, at Joey, ayaw pa!”

Vic Sotto or more well known by Pinoy masses as Bossing said, “Parang I feel like a historical figure right now. And with this book, matagal plinano… Parang what Ms. Fagar [Malou Choa Fagar, vice president of TAPE, Inc.] said kanina, parang it immortalizes the show. Na hindi naman sa pagyayabang, palagay ko, tama lang, being the longest-running show in the Philippines. And, ‘yong mga nagawa ng Eat Bulaga! sa entertainment, sa public service… I mean, it’s a whole package, e.”

The text was written by well known host, columnist, and critic: Butch Francisco and de Leon’s son, Joko helped in its conceptualization. You may order a copy of this much-talked-about book by visiting their website at http://www.eatbulaga.tv.
