Speech Only, No Action is the meaning of SONA for our former parish priest Rev. Fr. Agustin Datu of the Society of the Holy Trinity, as conveyed to us during his Sunday mass homily just a day before the 2012 State of the Nation Address by our dear President Benigno Aquino III.
It is during the SONA that we Filipinos get to hear the full report of the current accomplishments and future plans of the government. Most likely, an hour litany of praises for what we’ve triumphed over and add to this the government’s vision for the future ahead. But is it really important to hear the comprehensive report of our administration?
The SONA is definitely an interesting topic for those who are conceivably nurtured on the ins and outs of our political system. But to the majority of the Filipino people it is just a plain public speech to boast the government’s success and present promises supposedly for the sake of the nation. However, it doesn’t
seem to provide a resolution to the current predicament of the public.
We Pinoys have long sought the progress of our country. And we are expecting that a change in governance will lead us to this aspiration. Yet the Aquino administration has focused so much in catching the crooks and somehow has taken less time in taking care of the daily necessities of our nation. We look forward to our dear leader for not just a clear and straight path but also a paved road for progress to flow. I do commend them for doing or if not, in trying to strengthen the value of our society and make it plausible for most of us to survive our daily ordeals.
The accounts on progress may have pleased some of us but there is a lot more of expectations from our dear president. It is true that only through everyone’s efforts can we achieve success but add to this a wise leader and he’ll be able to direct his people towards more than just success but sustainability in the
purest essence.
Our system and quality of education has been one of the recognized issues by the government and they say that education is the answer to end poverty. Thus they aimed to provide education for all and started the implementation of the K-12 program. Frankly, will this new system bring us literate citizens or just another burden for Juan? The program “may be” a solution but there are worse issues concerning our quality of education that we have to look into like shortages of schools, classrooms, teachers and even text books to properly cover the rising student population.
There are a lot more issues we deem to hear from the president’s point-of-view. It seems the FYI’s were intended to mask the critical issues that the Aquino administration has not yet decided to answer.
I can say no more about the new endeavors that PNoy has presented us on his lengthy speech. They are all possible if only the Filipino people will strive to do their best but I think that only a few will support this venture. We can hope for the betterment of our home land if all of us will be truthful with one another.
Let us consider taking action and skip the rants and rages. Words are easily forgotten but deeds are forever remembered.
