A different meaning for SONA

by xarki, on Wed, Jul 25 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of njoranga16.wordpress.comSpeech Only, No Action is the meaning of SONA for our former parish priest Rev. Fr. Agustin Datu of the Society of the Holy Trinity, as conveyed to us during his Sunday mass homily just a day before the 2012 State of the Nation Address by our dear President Benigno Aquino III.

It is during the SONA that we Filipinos get to hear the full report of the current accomplishments and future plans of the government. Most likely, an hour litany of praises for what we’ve triumphed over and add to this the government’s vision for the future ahead. But is it really important to hear the comprehensive report of our administration?

The SONA is definitely an interesting topic for those who are conceivably nurtured on the ins and outs of our political system. But to the majority of the Filipino people it is just a plain public speech to boast the government’s success and present promises supposedly for the sake of the nation. However, it doesn’t
seem to provide a resolution to the current predicament of the public.

We Pinoys have long sought the progress of our country. And we are expecting that a change in governance will lead us to this aspiration. Yet the Aquino administration has focused so much in catching the crooks and somehow has taken less time in taking care of the daily necessities of our nation. We look forward to our dear leader for not just a clear and straight path but also a paved road for progress to flow. I do commend them for doing or if not, in trying to strengthen the value of our society and make it plausible for most of us to survive our daily ordeals.

The accounts on progress may have pleased some of us but there is a lot more of expectations from our dear president. It is true that only through everyone’s efforts can we achieve success but add to this a wise leader and he’ll be able to direct his people towards more than just success but sustainability in the
purest essence.

Our system and quality of education has been one of the recognized issues by the government and they say that education is the answer to end poverty. Thus they aimed to provide education for all and started the implementation of the K-12 program. Frankly, will this new system bring us literate citizens or just another burden for Juan? The program “may be” a solution but there are worse issues concerning our quality of education that we have to look into like shortages of schools, classrooms, teachers and even text books to properly cover the rising student population.

There are a lot more issues we deem to hear from the president’s point-of-view. It seems the FYI’s were intended to mask the critical issues that the Aquino administration has not yet decided to answer.

I can say no more about the new endeavors that PNoy has presented us on his lengthy speech. They are all possible if only the Filipino people will strive to do their best but I think that only a few will support this venture. We can hope for the betterment of our home land if all of us will be truthful with one another.

Let us consider taking action and skip the rants and rages. Words are easily forgotten but deeds are forever remembered.

“Mayuga” report released by Aquino

by Melody Claire, on Fri, Aug 19 2011 | No Comments

Pres. Benigno Aquino III has finally allowed the public release of the military investigation report regarding the 2004 election fraud.

Rep. Neri Colmenares, Bayan muna party list representative, received the letter last Wednesday (August 17) allowing the release of the said report. Representative Colmenares also requested a copy of the inquiry.

The Mayuga report was said to be a classified document by the military and its contents states that some of the military’s high ranking officers participated in ‘fixing’ the 2004 election results in favor of Ex-president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Based on the congressman’s initial analysis, the report does not define clearly any leads about the alleged poll fraud. According to his statement, the report does not show any electoral fraud and does not associate to the military except for advices for reforms. They may have to look in to the annexes for possible information.

The report was prepared by Navy Flag OIC Vice Admiral Mateo Mayuga who led the team in probing the participation of several ranking military officers on the alleged 2004 election poll.

The report may give additional information for the proper investigation regarding the poll fraud. Several senators are unsatisfied with the reports contents.

Bayan-muna party list Rep. Teddy Casiño implies that the report only contains general statements. It seems the investigators did not persevere on the examination. He furthermore questions the late release of the report despite its lacking contents.

PNoy advised not to get married by Archbishop Cruz

by Alethea, on Wed, Apr 20 2011 | No Comments

Following his vocal support with the Catholic Church’s irked Reproductive Health bill, President Benigno Aquino found himself meticulously deboned in many aspect of his life including of course, his much guarded love affair. The deboning committee is headed by Bishop Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz who voiced out his opinion of how the bachelor President should fare in his love life.

Archbishop Cruz firmly stated that the President should not marry after PNoy expressed his staunch belief in the necessity of implementing the RH bill. Cruz noted that at the age of 50, it may not anymore be advisable for the President to marry. He cited several surveys that marriage would be unstable for those who are 40 years old and above.

“We found out that those who get married young, and by young, 20 years old below, and those who get married old, 40 above, these are the marriages which are unstable. The younger part, it’s unstable. They are movable. They change. Marriage is a continuity, it’s a permanence and easily they change. It doesn’t suit their age,” the bishop commented.
“But 40 above, marriage is blending. Two in one. Somebody who’s 40, 50, 60 cannot blend anymore,” he added.

The Bishop also clarified that his statement is not rendered as an absolute truth or probability since there could also be exceptions.

“I’m just saying our statistics is yung mga bata, hindi dapat magpakasal. Yung matatanda hindi rin dapat magpakasal. Baka may exception ha,” he said.

The Palace spokesperson, however, dismissed the bishop’s remark.

“While everyone recognizes Archbishop Cruz’s credentials as a Canon lawyer, to the best of my knowledge, he is not a marriage counselor. Neither does he have a personal relationship with the President as to make a deductive conclusion regarding his personal life,‚Äù stated deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte.

PNoy, on the other hand, gained supporters from the Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines. Beth Angsioco readily defended the President stating that Aquino has every right to marry despite retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz’s remark. “Personal na isyu ang pag aasawa para sa isang tao lalo na para kay Pangulong Noynoy Aquino,” Angsioco said.

She pointed out that the Church is resorting to personal attacks against the President for supporting the Reproductive Health Bill.

PNoy’s new Porsche much criticised

by Alethea, on Thu, Jan 13 2011 | 3 Comments

Despite buying it as a third hand, President Aquino was still met with much disapproval when he decided to purchase a luxury 2007 Porsche car. It was noted that the bachelor president was very proud of his recent property acquisition but he humbly stated that he is not “flaunting” it. The said disapproval of the critics was due to the fact that the government should face austerity measure amidst the turbulent and unstable economy of the nation. Buying the said car worth 4.5 million pesos seemed to be untimely and inappropriate in such time of adversity. The Porsche is a bit too flashy and extravagant thereby eliciting much distaste among the critics.

Palace spokesperson Edwin Lacierda justified the purchase of the sports car. He explained that the car was bought with the president’s own personal money after ditching his old BMW car. He further stressed that the amount is a depreciated value of the actual selling price thus prompting the president to buy it. In addition, PNoy had immediately sold his old car and used the money to buy his newest much loved Porsche. Lacierda also has high hopes that the car will not be used to sow intrigues or judge the President. He even appealed for respect for the privacy of the President.

When asked about the car, the President proudly stated that it was a good buy because the sports car has a mileage of only 10,000 kilometers. He jokingly added that he might not be able to add more to the mileage because he is often confined with his duty in the Malacanang. The car seemed to have sparked further curiosity as to whether the President would be using it on his dates as a means of impressing the ladies. Some critics spawned an idea that the car could somehow alleviate the luckless love life of the president. A flashy car could indeed work wonders in wooing a lady.

The president quickly dismissed the idea of his car being a show-off toy. He stated that he just wants to use it in order to relax at times. “Kung maaliwalas naman po at nakaka-relax tayo paminsan-minsan, siguro naman po kapaki-pakinabang [Porsche] ‘pag gumagawa tayo ng desisyon (I want to relax sometimes, it could help me with my decisions),” he said.

The president is known for his car affinity among other things. He is also a proficient sharp shooter as he does target shooting as a hobby. He also enjoys playing billiards during his free time. Recently, he has been known to start biking as his newest form of exercise since one of his New Year resolutions is to keep fit. But the smoking, the steaks and the sodas are definitely there to stay.

President Aquino has issued a proclamation to succumb amnesty to soldier rebel, Senator Trillanes et al., who were brave enough to stand against the government under Arroyo’s regime. This certainly leads to their long anticipated liberty before Christmas comes. The Senate Chairperson Sen. During the Oakwood mutiny, many people started to be aware of the inside anomaly that was not known to almost all the Pilipino people. That triggers, the unveiling of so many inconsistencies of the recent administration who ousted Former Joseph Estrada and was now proven that they themselves has been doing more than what they have been accusing of him.

However, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa endorsed the new proclamation last Wednesday, and was said to take effect as soon as possible, once the majority of the house of congress, will agree upon the said declaration and the signing thereof. Malacañang assured its amendment, on the given time of the said decree. Senator Teofito Guingona III affirms that after the signing, the mutineers will be release before December 25.

Sen. Guingona stated that under the new proclamation, those who were not reinstated should benefit retirement and separation fees, when during such separation; they have been eligible within the present laws and regulations. Eventually, the new declaration obliged them to attend one hearing under his committee, Senator Guingona said, this will be held on the first week of December, together to attend are the companies of both ex-army Brig. Gen. Alfredo Lim and that of former Marine Col. Ariel Querubin.
