Remembering the great Bobby Parks

courtesy of www.pba-online.netI am once a big fan of the Philippine basketball league. When I was young I never failed to watch the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) games. With my old black and white National-brand tube, I had all the time to view the ball games.

I dreamt of becoming a great basketball player as most young Filipino kids would aspire during the “old days.” Of course, the basketball Legend – Sonny Jaworski (Robert Jaworski) was the most admired at that time alongside the names Ginebra or Anejo were the common shouts of the basketball aspirants.

Asides from admiring a particular team or a particular ball player, I never also failed to be a fan of some of PBA’s imports. These are the people who were tasked by various teams to showcase their basketball playing prowess amidst the local rosters. In some ways, I treated them as the “super heroes” of Philippine basketball. One whose unique features and unmistakable built will provide a boost to every team and most of the time deliver majority of the points in every ball game. Bobby Parks Sr. was one of them.

However, I was not a fan of Parks since he was not playing for my favorite team during that time. I even treated him as an opponent and antagonized his abilities just like every kid of my age. Even though this is the case, Bobby Parks was most renowned for being the best import of the PBA wen he stayed ten (10) years with Shell. Together with Benjie Paras and Ronnie Magsanoc, the three indeed made a mark in PBA history.

Bobby’s death has made me remember how great he was. And his presence in the PBA has always been a great memory for every Filipino who loved basketball.

With all the good times that you have made possible life here on earth, I pray that his soul may rest in peace with our Lord.

Allado’s social tweets hints corruption in PBA

courtesy of ayandeatoinrandom.wordpress.comDon Allado (Center of the Red Bull Barako) has admitted that he is to blame for spilling his guts out on social network media (Twitter) regarding his woes about the outcome of their game with Powerade Tigers . Allado’s tweets insinuated a “game-fixing” incident within the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) league leading to the loss of the Barakos.

Game-fixing within the most honored Philippine sport is a grave issue if this is proven present in the professional basketball league. No one will ever want to watch the PBA if all games are setup and winners predetermined. The worst case scenario is less value for our Filipino athletes not being able to show what they have to offer in the world of basketball. Basketball will lose some points and may not be considered our nation’s most loved sport aside from boxing, billiards and the now emerging football.

Allado is being fined at least P500,000 including getting suspended for the whole conference as  fair compensation for the damages made to the PBA. A plausible penalty to keep our ball players responsible enough not to make unnecessary actions that may put them in a compromising spot.

Many Pinoys lauded Allado’s cause in voicing out the frauds within the league. No one is brave enough to do such a whimsical outburst of emotion that can damage his own organization. I too would be on his side. Say he is angry and he is drunk but neither would keep us from telling the truth as long as it is the reality.

The House of Representatives have initiated a probe to find out if the Barako Bull center is in fact right on his allegations despite his immediate denial of the negative statement. We can invariably thank Allado for his actions if the investigation will return promising results for the betterment of the league.
