PH Homeless World Cup Team is all set for France

The Philippine team for the Homeless World Cup flew to France yesterday (August 19, 2011) to once again try to grab the most coveted championship cup which they first tried to win a year ago at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

 
The difference in climate and weather may affect their game performance but according to the team it will not be a hindrance. Rudy del Rosario, the team’s head coach said,” They may be playing in a 20-22 degree weather which is still okay. It is just a matter of them adjusting to that.”

 
A recent meeting with the renowned Philippine Azkals gave way for Chieffy Caligdong, Philippine Azkals co-captain, to greet the Homeless World Cup Philippine Team. “Goodluck at sana manalo tayo hindi lang para sa sarili natin kundi sa bayan natin”, he said.

 
Dan Palami, Azkals Team Manager, advises them to play with their heart just like in any other sport and to represent the country in any way they can.

 
The street soccer team’s involvement in this kind of competition is a life changing step since most of their members are out-of-school youths who came from all over the country.

 
“Dati kasi maloko kami pero nung pinagsama-sama kami natuto kaming magkaisa. Natutong umunawa sa bawat isa. Kahit sa anong bagay. Football o ano man dapat huwag mawalan ng pag-asa. Kahit mahirap may pag-asa,” a statement shared by Jeffrey Guelas, one of the team’s players.

PH Azkals beat Sri Lanka Brave Reds

After the much awaited game between the Philippine Azkals and the Brave Reds of Sri Lanka, the match ended with the Pinoys’s reaping the laurel and bacon.
 
The event was held today, Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. The venue was said to be filled with crowd which shows the great support of the Filipino to the famed Philippine football team.
 
The score tallied to 4 – 0 with the Philippines on the lead and with the total of 5-1 in total of the previous match‚Äôs score.
 
With the victory the Azkals have achieved, they made a name in the world record to be the Philippine team to advance in the second qualifier round of the FIFA.
 
One of the dramatic part of the event is when the coach of the Philippine team was overwhelmed making him to embrace his player who made a score in the 19th minute of the game. Coach Michael Weiss was so glad that Chieffy Caligdong was able to send the ball to the goal giving the team the first score.
 
The game was a highlight and in fact, some of TV personalities were there. Angel Locsin was caught by the camera enjoy watching the game and cheering. Was this because of Phil Younghusband who was a also a star player of the team? Probably I guess.

Call it a match: Azkals

In the total result of 1-1 scores established between Sri Lanka Brave Reds and Philippine Azkals, the game ended in a draw.
 
The game was held in Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka and was a part of the World Cup Qualifier. The match happened last Wednesday, June 29.
 
Sri Lanka established their scores first in the 43rd minute of the game. Chathura Gunarathna made the ball up to the goal and has commenced the thrill. However, Nate Burkey of the Philippine Azkals Team was able to build a score in the 50th minute of the game. This made the game settles on the tie.
 
During the game, the heat is on when James Younghusband, Aly Borromeo and Stephan Schrock were able to receive yellow cards because of some mild offenses. As reported, the three loses their temper and weren’t able to control their self. Does this explain why James was not able to score in his three attempts?
 
The result of the match made the Philippine Team to advance in the next round vying with Kuwait Football team.
It has been about a week ago when the Azkals set foot on Sri Lanka after reaping laurels and bacon in Germany. At the end of this competition, are we going to see them victorious once more? We will see.
 
Cambodia, Nepal, Mongolia and Palestine were the major opponents of the team in the other qualifying matches.
