“We need time to get ready for that (fight). We have to come out with a real different style. It‚Äôs a whole different ballgame.” ‚Äì Coach Freddie Roach
Coach Freddie Roach is certainly thrilled with a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. dream match, but he is not in favor for the possible March 13 showdown between the world’s two most popular and most bankable boxers. Promoter Bob Arum comes to Manila earlier this week to seek approval from Manny Pacquiao’s camp about the March 13 fight.
But the three-time Trainer of the Year, readily thumbed down the proposed March 13 face-off being dangled by Top Rank Promotions’ big boss Bob Arum following a series of negotiations he had with Golden Boy Promotions’ CEO Richard Schaefer, representing Mayweather.
“March 13 is too fast a turnaround,” said Roach from Europe, where he is currently preparing reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) light-welterweight champion Amir Khan for his Dec. 5 title defense against Dmitriy Salita.
It has been reported that Bob Arum has been waiting for Pacquiao for hours at the New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati to discuss about the fight while Manny Pacquiao was busy completing the final scenes of his action picture Wapakman. Wapakaman is an official entry to Metro Manila Film Festival which is to be shown on Dec. 25.
Although the Pacman scored a late stoppage against the 29-year old Cotto, Pacquiao emerged out of it bearing bruises on both eyes and an injured right ear.

“Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer, talk for him. I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself.” That is the challenge thrown by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. to the newly crown WBO welterweight champion.
Few minutes after Manny Pacquiao was declared as the winner in his fight against Miguel Cotto, the chant from thousands of fans in the MGM Grand Garden Arena rose up: “We want Floyd!”
