It was no ordinary Monday for me and my jogging buddies, not only because we incidentally are fewer in number compared to the past weeks that we have been doing this healthy routine, but also the early morning of the 21st of May marked a rare astronomical event for everyone to witness in the near midyear. A partial solar eclipse was set to amaze most of us joggers who regularly pay visit the rolling grounds of Colinas Verde Heights in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
Observing the eclipse on the rolling hills of this soon-to-be-populated exclusive community is the best spot for this cosmic deed. It gave us the chance to have a glimpse of what is yet to happen in the skies on an early Monday morning.
Though we are aware of the ecliptic occurrence, we never had the chance (or never did seek for we care less) to bring with us tools to aid us in viewing the soon-to-be-concealed stellar sphere. One of my companions dared to scrutinize the blinding glare of the sun amidst the cloudy skies that offered a consequential shield to its blaring glow. I did follow the same but only to make a quick peek just within my peripheral vision and I successfully captured a shadow of the spectacle that I am sure to remember.
The moon has already covered the top left portion of the sun. Even without the proper viewing tools, we got a good glance of the exceptional alignment of the sun and moon. But we still wished that we have brought something to make our viewing experience much nicer.
Nevertheless, we carried on with what we came for in the first place. The eclipse created the best moment for us to enjoy a fairly cold climate to walk, run or sprint the challenging stretch of this undulating district. Yes! Definitely it is still worth waking up early for.
