Win disappoints Manny and many

by Alethea, on Mon, May 9 2011 | No Comments

The entire nation joins together to celebrate the victory of Manny Pacquiao over his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley but most celebrators quickly turned sour in the lack of action in the match. Many fans were disappointed including the Pacman himself.

Although it was a sweeping victory for the People’s Champ, many booed the fight stating that it was not worth the money they had paid for as they expect to see a livelier action. Manny’s fight always promises a hard-pressed action but this match with Mosley bore the audience out of their wits. It has been labelled as Manny’s worst match-up ever. Mosley is noted to be a hesitant opponent fearing the contact of Manny’s powerful jabs. Other predicted that it was just a valiant effort in his part to remain standing all through out the 12 rounds so he avoids being hit as much as possible. His stalling did not please the audience.

The score card presents the score of 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107 in favor of the 8-division champion from the Philippines. Despite his score, Manny was not contented with his fight. Unknown to many, he had suffered leg cramps that prevents him from moving swiftly and land a jab at Mosley. Mosley had been running around in circles making it difficult for Manny to reach him with his punches. He had suffered the cramps starting from the 4th round after he had downed Mosley in the third round.

“I asked them to press my leg because it really hurts. In the last 3 rounds, it felt better,” he said.

Another event that disappointed Manny is the questionable “knock-out” that he decided after he was caught off balance in the 10th round. His felt after Mosley deliberately give him a shove and he has to make up for the lost points after that. After the fight, Referee Kenny Bayless apologize to Manny for ruling the fall in favour of Mosley.

‚ÄúEven if you didn’t get hit that’s still a knockdown. It’s already recorded in the scorecards,‚Äù said Pacquiao. ‚ÄúThat’s why I got mad. I had to recover on points.‚Äù

The ensuing round became heated as Manny strikes back with vengeance. But Mosley remains elusive. Despite of Manny taunting him to strike, he remained out of reach and the action was totally not delivered. Mosley had felt the power of the Pacman and yellow-bellied his way through the 12th round. Still, fans are expecting that maybe next time, Top Rank would provide a better match for Manny. One who is sure to entertain fans with action and not just “bromance.”

Mosley woos Filipino boxing fans in Twitter

by Alethea, on Wed, Apr 13 2011 | No Comments

Champ Sugar Shane Mosley knows the way to catch the hearts of the Filipinos by saying the right thing at the right time. His words tickled most Filipino fans’ fancy and he sure did hit the right spot when he tweeted a message addressed to Filipino fans.

Filipino fans are solid Manny Pacquiao fanatics and to woe them with generous words are something new and very much welcome. This Mosley did as he sought support and sympathy from the Filipinos in one of his tweets. On April 11, Mosley’s Twitter verified account @SugarShaneM tweeted: “Pagpapadala ibig at paggalang sa mga tao ng mga Philippines.”

His message was a literal translation of his message which is supposed to have meant “Sending love and respect to the people of the Philippines.” Despite the broken Filipino grammar, the message intended was well-accepted and well-loved by Filipinos.

Many fans commented that they are appreciative of Mosley’s effort. Not many foes of Pacquiao had done the same before. His gesture is very humbling that many Filipinos were easily touched. Many critics are quick to point out the contrast of Mosley to Mayweather, another foe pitted against Manny. Fans pointed out that Mosley is an every inch of a gentleman that he would woe the opponent’s stronghold. He was praised as a good sport, a professional, and a man of humility. Mayweather, on the other hand, is full of empty threats and boisterous accusations. He is very much unlike the down to earth Mosley.

The fight between Mosley and Manny is set on May 8 (Manila time) at MGM Grand Las Vegas, Nevada. Mosley is hoping for an action-packed and clean fight with the pound for pound champion Pacquiao. He added in his Twitter:

“I tumingin forward sa magandang malinis na laban. Ako excited,” Mosley, who appeared to have used an online translator, said.

Filipino users were pleased and they twitted back their delight for Mosley‚Äôs effort to communicate in the native tongue. With all the praise and admiration he gained from the Filipino‚Äôs, Mosley tweeted back: “Filipino tao ibinigay sa akin ng lot’s of love ngayon. Salamat.”

by Alethea, on Tue, Jan 25 2011 | No Comments

Pacquiao is at this moment has his hands full. What with his impending fight against Mosley on May 7 added to his duty as a public servant. But this surely did not slow his engine in venturing into a new business despite his overwhelming portfolio of businesses. Pacquiao claimed his enthusiasm in opening a new Tattoo Shop in Los Angeles, California when he would arrive there for his one month training against Mosley.

Manny already have plenty of businesses including a resort in Boracay, a gasoline station, a high-end boutique, coffee shop, water refilling station and his best selling album. A tattoo shop would be his first business venture abroad. He had already sought the help of a US-based famous tattoo artist, Chris Garcia to be his partner in business. Pacquiao, a known tattoo enthusiast, has said nothing but praises to Garcia.

“Magandang karangalan ito na makasama ko siya sa tattoo shop dahil isa siya sa mga pinakamagaling mag-tattoo dito sa atin and I’m very proud of him. Marami siyang tina-tattoo-han, mga sikat na actors, Hollywood actors, mga singers at marami pang iba. Sana malayo ang marating namin,” said Pacquiao.

Garcia, of course, is euphoric for being a part of the business plan. He has been known to ink plenty of known names in Hollywood. He is recently featured in UK’s best selling tattoo magazine Skin Deep. He had also garnered numerous awards during the recent Richmond Tattoo Festival. He built a solid reputation as an artist in Virginia but eventually made his way to Las Vegas where he works at Club Tattoo which is located inside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. A very talented man he is but what is so queer about this guy is that he used to work in NASA on a chemical composition sensor instrument. This guy surely has brains and skills up his sleeves. However, he casted NASA aside in order to pursue his life long devotion of tattooing. It is a profession where he had found joy and so, he is no up his sleeves in doing a job he loves.

“Ibang klaseng pakiramdam. Napaka-sarap ng pakiramdam,‚Äù said Garcia during an interview at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City to attend the Magalona Tribute Concert with Pacquiao.

“Pagkasinabi mo ‘yong pangalan ni Manny, ang unang papasok sa isip mo ay absolute excellence. Kaya ‘yon ang gusto naming i-offer sa shop niya—nothing but the absolute best,‚Äù he added.

Garcia said the planned shop, the first branch of which will be opened in Los Angeles, California, will embody “the excellence synonymous to Manny Pacquiao.” Among the list of Garcia’s impressive portfolio of Hollywood customers are actor Sylvester Stallone and father and daughter singers Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus.
