Rumors stir on upcoming Pacquiao-Mayweather bout

by xarki, on Thu, Jan 19 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of pacquiaofightsmayweathernews.blogspot.comFloyd Mayweather will soon be serving his 90-day jail sentence starting June 1 of this year after being convicted of domestic violence. His conviction has made notions of uncertainty in establishing a possible match with our very own boxing champ Manny Pacquiao.

On January 19th (Thursday) Mayweather has spoken with Pacquiao through telephone to discuss a possible bout on May this year (almost a month before he serves his jail sentence). The phone dialogue between the two boxing contenders was confirmed by the advisers of both sides through several media outlets.

Leonard Ellerbe (Mayweather’s adviser) confirmed the call to ESPN. Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum did the same to Boxingscene.com. Also, Pacquiao had a formal interview in the Philippines with ABS-CBN about the call.

Pacquiao asks a 50-50 share of income from Mayweather to proceed with the bout. The Pacquiao-Mayweather boxing match will be regarded as the best-heeled fight in boxing history which is expected to reach up to a $100 Million in total if it forges ahead.

Mayweather already has a May 5 booked date at Las Vegas yet Pacquiao’s promoter aims for a later date to muster a huge outdoor arena and sell more tickets and boost profits.

Everyone has waited long enough to see this fight proceed. The rest of the world especially the Filipino boxing fans still have to wait for the final decision with whom Pacquiao will fight this year. I just hope this most-awaited clash between two pound-for-pound boxing contenders will not be just a show for the money. Otherwise it would just be a lame match on both ends.

Pacquiao’s promotion ridiculed by many

by xarki, on Fri, Oct 21 2011 | No Comments

The boxing champ’s entry to the congress was greeted with a lot of speculations and recently followed by the news of his future plans of running as Vice-president which was then changed so that he’d be running for the governor post instead.

Many people loved Manny’s winning streak in the world of professional boxing. His determination and his powerful punches won him fans not only in his own country but all over the world.

But when a thing like politics was tagged with the champ’s name, many people shook their heads. What’s with him? Isn’t being a boxing champion enough to serve the public by winning his tournaments?

Currently , the Armed Forces of the Philippines has officially granted his promotion as a ranking official of the military reserve corps from master sergeant to lieutenant colonel leading to the contradiction and questioning regarding the boxer’s advancement.

Senator Lito Lapid expressed his appreciation on Pacquiao’s promotion yet his words seem to say that he is envious of Manny’s attained military status. Sen. Lapid was given the Major rank during his political service as governor; a rank which he still holds up until now.

Sen. Ralph Recto on the other hand, gave a different point of view. He stated, “His promotion is an opportunity not a problem. Pacquiao’s job is to inspire the troops when morale is low, rein them in when discipline breaks down and temper them when the lust for bloodshed overwhelms reason.”

Despite the approval and granting of Pacquiao’s rank-up, he denies the application for his appointment.

by Alethea, on Fri, Jun 10 2011 | No Comments

Socialite Paris Hilton announced to the world via Jimmy Kimmel Live that she is a friend of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee. The heiress to the multi-million hotels and business chains of the Hiltons excitedly detailed that their newfound friendship budded during Pacman’s fight with Shane Mosley at Las Vegas last May 7. Paris Hilton had been one of the high profiled celebrities who watched the show. Her presence had sealed a friendship with the Pacquiaos who were very gracious in having her in the audience.

Could Jinkee be Paris’ new BFF? Paris stated that she could be since the two are obviously planning to turn their friendship into a more trusting relationship. They are aiming to be business partners. Paris is also interested in having Manny in a singing tandem. She stated that she admired Pacquiao’s prowess in both boxing and singing. She even wished to record a song with him. Paris had been a recording artist before, a career that she had forgone for a while. Manny Pacquiao is of course tickled pink with the prospect.

“Maganda iyan. Siguro mangyayari rin iyan kapag ginusto ng panahon,” said Pacman.

As of present, Paris is aiming for a business tandem with the couple. This she divulged during the course of her interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

Jimmy Kimmel: By friends what do you mean? Because Manny… English is his second language. So what do (you) guys do together?

Paris Hilton: I’m going to go to the Philippines soon. I just opened a couple of more stores out there for my handbag line.

Jimmy Kimmel: You did? You have stores in the Philippines?

Paris Hilton: Yeah, over 30 stores now.

Jinkee Pacquiao confirmed the forthcoming business partnership with the hotel heiress.

“Nagte-text lang. If ever may mapag-usapan na business namin, sana matuloy,” stated Jinkee.

And before things get out of hand, Pacquiao clarified that Jinkee has no reason to be jealous with Paris over Pacman’s affection. Pacman clarified that he is just being friendly with the internationally acclaimed socialite. He also added that Jinkee is even closer to Paris than he is.

Mayweather refused $65 million to fight Pacquiao

by Alethea, on Sat, Jun 4 2011 | 1 Comment

Another negotiation and another failed attempt to entice Floyd Mayweather to face Manny Pacquio in the ring was reported by the dismayed Top Rank promoter Bob Arum. Arum sadly announced that again, despite the hefty offer, Mayweather turned down the proposed match-up between him and People’s Champ Pacman.

According to Arum, Mayweather clearly avoids the match with Pacquiao and he wants to stay away from it as much as possible. Arum concluded that the supposed fight should have been a good comeback fight for Mayweather who had remained inactive for over a year now. The offer is very tempting yet Mayweather profusely refused the pot money which already amounts to a staggering $65 million. Naturally, the Hall of Fame promoter Arum was disappointed.

“I’m an optimist, and I always felt that they’d eventually fight. At this point, I really feel that they’d never fight,‚Äù Arum stated in a video interview.

“Recently, as recent as this week, legitimate people from Singapore offered Mayweather $65 million to fight Manny Pacquiao and he turned it down,” said the promoter, who did not name those who initiated the said deal.

‚Äú$65 million is obviously a sum Manny Pacquiao would accept. So what does that tell you? It tells you he (Mayweather) doesn‚Äôt want to fight Manny Pacquiao,” he added.

Once again, Mayweather’s delaying tactics to prevent the fight with Pacman worked. Fans, bettors and promoters were dismayed knowing that the fight would have been the richest in boxing history but it seems that it would not actually come to fruition.

Mayweather’s endless and unreasonable demands had grown tiring. He first requested for an Olympic-style drug testing which Pacquiao initially refused but eventually accepted. Despite of Pacman’s acceptance, Mayweather still backed out of the offer. He even went as far as demand a $100 million dollar purse to face the Filipino boxing champ but the amount had been termed as “ridiculous” by Arum.

This time, Arum stated that Mayweather simply fears the Pacman. He refused to stain his undefeated title. He is wise enough to realize that he would be staking his pristine record and that is not something he could easily gamble with. Arum has a final say to impart.

“He doesn‚Äôt want to fight Manny. He’s smart not to fight Manny because, truth be told, everyone who knows boxing know that Manny will beat him,” he said.

Pacquiao debated RH Bill on TV

by Alethea, on Sun, May 22 2011 | No Comments

Despite squaring off with top legislators in the Philippine politics, Manny Pacquiao proved that he is fearless both inside the ring and out. He took his battle on a new level but we won‚Äôt be seeing him clad in his usual shorts and gloves. He would be clad in a formal Americana suit as he battles against the imposition of the Reproductive Health Bill. This time, he will be stating his stand on television. Manny hoped to reach out and convince people to oppose the said bill during the GMA News TV’s “RH Bill: The Grand Debate” which airs on Sunday, May 22.

Pacquiao stated that RH bills would not be an effective tool to combat poverty as opposed to President Pnoy’s claim. Manny affirmed that the main root of poverty should be eliminated and that is graft and corruption in the government.

“Sana piliin natin yung hindi labag sa utos ng Panginoon. Walang sinabi kung ilan lang dapat ang anak. Ang solusyon sa problema ay sugpuin ang kurapsyon at magkaisa tayong lahat,” Pacquiao said during the show’s taping at GMA Network studios on Tuesday, May 17.

“Sa ngayon pa lang, wala pa iyong RH Bill, gumagamit na iyong ibang tao ng condom o pills,” Pacquiao added.

Pacquiao is well-supported with his flamboyant and feisty Mommy Dionesia who both agreed that Filipinos should opt for a family planning method that is God-centered. He claimed that using contraceptives is certainly against the law of God. Instead of contraceptives, Manny suggested on the natural family planning which coincides with the Church’s pro-life advocacy.

“I-educate ang mga tao (on family planning) na hindi naman labag sa Panginoon. Piliin natin ang kautusan ng Diyos, hindi ang kautusan ng tao,” Pacquiao said in the debate.

Pacquiao insisted that RH bill would not fully eliminate poverty. Other laws and programs should be implemented in its stead.

“Bakit hindi na lang tayo gumawa ng batas na siyang magiging kasagutan sa kahirapan n gating bansa? Sa dami natin dito sa Kongreso ay maaaring mahanap natin ang kasagutan sa problemang ito hindi tulad ng RH Bill na sa aking pananaw ay masyadong divisive,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao is joined by many other scholars and experts who explained there side whether they would agree that the RH Bill be considered immoral or not. Representatives from religious, academic, women and government sectors joined the debate.
