Only one thousand five hundred people received the coveted gold-embossed invitation to the royal wedding. The invited constitutes of a range of people coming from different walks in life starting from the upper echelon of royal families, diplomats and foreign dignitaries up to the lowly nannies and pub owners who had shared the couple’s meaningful lives. And as the day draws near, the heir to England’s throne Prince William made sure that the whole world could bear witness as he repeats the same fairy tale wedding that his father once did by marrying a commoner. The Prince will make a dream come true for Catherine Middleton, his long time sweetheart of 8 years.
The much-awaited date will be on April 29 at the Westminster Abbey and all eyes will be glued on the television as worldwide coverage is expected to televise the event. The couple even requested to have their wedding aired on YouTube so that people from other nation could view their special moment.
Two Filipinos were lucky enough to receive the invitation. Lillie Piccio, one of the invitees, is a member of the household staff at the Royal Palace in the United Kingdom and had worked as a nanny for Prince William and Harry when their mother Princess Diana was still alive. She had shared that the two Princes were very humble and even refused to be addressed as ‚ÄúYour Royal Highness.‚Äù Charg√© d’affaires of the Philippine Embassy, Reynaldo Catapang was also invited.
The romance of the royal sweetheart started in St. Andrews University where the two met during their college years. Ever since, the two went steady and strong. The college had been a memorable part for the two that they plan to revisit it for the university’s 600th anniversary celebrations after the wedding. The university community had helped kept the couple’s romance in college a secret to the thronging press making them a special part on the couple’s lives.
This wedding is coined to be wedding of the century and by far, one of the most expensive wedding affairs to be held in the contemporary era. From their guests, the couple requested that in lieu of wedding gifts, donations to the couples’ favourite charities would be preferred.
The wedding is etched with many sentimental gestures. One of it is the engagement ring of Kate which was previously owned by the late Princess Diana. Another is the wedding venue of Westminster Abbey where the late princess was finally blessed during her funeral mass. William declared his love for Kate by making her an eternal part of a family he had come to love. He also made sure that his reposed mother would be a part of the festivity. By making sure that all people could have a chance of seeing their wedding, the Prince exhibits his humility and down to earth gesture of reaching out to every people. And for us commoners, that is what being a Royalty is all about!
