Pacquaio-Mayweather bout not possible this year

by xarki, on Mon, Feb 6 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of boxingsocialist.comFloyd Mayweather Jr. announced in Las Vegas last Wednesday (February 1, 2012) that he will be fighting Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico instead of Manny Pacquaio. The match will take place on the 5th of May.

With this news, the much sought-after boxing match between our very own boxing champ Pacquaio and Mayweather will no longer take place even before November of this year.

Instead, Mayweather will step up from the welterweight rank and fight for the super welterweight title which is currently being held by Cotto, a few weeks before he serves his 9-day jail sentence.

“Miguel Cotto is a world class fighter who can never be taken for granted and continues to prove he is one of the best in boxing,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather did not agree with Pacquiao’s deal to have the fight setup on June in order to maximize profits for the greatest boxing showdown in history.

Currently, the “People’s Champ” is still on the verge of deciding whom to fight this coming May or June. There is some unofficial news of a possible announcement this coming week.

So sorry Pinoy boxing fans! We really don’t know if Mayweather is trying to evade the challenge of facing our pound-for-pound fighter. Only through that possible match-up can we finally determine if Mayweather can really defeat the Pacman.

I wonder what will Mayweather do this time to defeat Cotto? Most of us still remember the controversial victory of this guy after landing a punch to a distracted contender. Still, we have high hopes of seeing this guy fall because of his nonsense blabbering.

Mayweather jailed for battery

by Alethea, on Mon, Dec 20 2010 | No Comments

World renowned and second best pound for pound boxer, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. spent a night inside a Las Vegas jail after turning himself in for a case of felony. An unknowing security guard was said to be the subject of the battery.

Felony case in the form of battery has been an uncommon crime attached to Mayweather. Last September, a case of felony was also filed against him by his former girlfriend and the mother of his daughter, Josie Harris. Mayweather was reported to have threatened to kill the former girlfriend together with her new boyfriend.

Not the one to easily learn his lesson and back down, Mayweather committed yet again with the same offense although the case was stated to be just a minor criminal accusation. His lawyer is quick to defend him stating that police and prosecutors are merely overreacting and that the 33-year-old Mayweather was getting “unequal punitive exaggerated treatment.” Richard Wright, his lawyer, simply dismissed the report as mere misdemeanor, one that would simply be resolved by an issuance of a ticket or be issued with court summons at the jail.

The misdemeanor charge ensues from a confrontation that happened last Nov. 15 during which authorities alleged Mayweather poked a 21-year-old security guard repeatedly in the left cheek during a loud verbal confrontation over parking tickets. Mayweather’s attorneys have denied wrongdoing on his behalf.

The warrant was issued Dec. 8 by a Las Vegas justice of the peace, but he immediately recalled it. It was reinstated Dec. 13 after prosecutors complained that Mayweather was receiving preferential treatment.

Looking back at his record, he had been issued quite a number of cases in misdemeanor for the last few months. One of it is his racial rants on Manny Pacquiao followed by other reported domestic violence. But the irony of this is that Manny Pacquiao is still wishing Mayweather strength so that he could overcome the overflowing cases charged against him. Seeing his hands full at the moment, it would still be a long wait for fans who are eagerly awaiting for the bout between the two prized fighter.

Mayweather’s game is in Dubai

After the postponed fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, a new match is arrange for the American boxer.

Undefeated American fighter Floyd Mayweather, Jr. disclosed that he is set to return to the ring but did not name his opponent.

“We’ll announce it all very soon,” Mayweather told Robin Leach of Las Vegas Weekly.

“But this time it won’t be in Vegas. It will be in another desert kingdom: Dubai,” he revealed.

Mayweather said this to Leach at the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California over the weekend.

The American fighter, who was supposed to face 7-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on November 13, did not say if he will fight again this year or next year.

Mayweather’s last victory was a unanimous decision win over Shane Mosley last May 1.

Negotiations for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight fell apart for the second time after the American reportedly snubbed the deadline set by the Filipino’s promoter, Bob Arum.

The fight talks collapsed for the first time due to the boxers’ disagreement on the drug testing protocol.

Margarito’s fate

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has found a new foe in Mexican Antonio Margarito. Their November 13 clash, however, still does not have a venue.

Arum, the Top Rank, Inc. CEO who also promotes Margarito, has been eyeing the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But Margarito has to reapply for a license to fight again in the United States after the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) revoked it last year.

The CSAC found a plaster-like substance in the Mexeican’s hand wraps before his January 2009 fight against Mosley.

Margarito tried to reapply for his license in Nevada and California, to no avail. He has now requested for a license from the Texas Athletic Commission.

“We’re looking forward to and hoping that Texas will issue a license. We fully expect that they willl. And we will then announce the press tour,” Arum told Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com.

Susan Stanford, public relations specialist for the Texas Athletic Commission, told BoxingScene.com that they are expected to make a decision on Thursday or Friday.

Fighter of the Decade Issue, wasn’t over yet

by admin, on Wed, Jun 16 2010 | No Comments

The camp of Mayweather doesn‚Äôt go over yet with the issue of the Fighter of the Decade. Mayweather said, ‚ÄúThat’s the kind of sh*t that hurts boxing. It makes no sense. Too many people in the sport don’t know what the f**k’s going on. That kind of sh*t right there is why boxing stays on the ropes,‚Äù

Pacquiao was also named the Fighter of the Year early this month in New York. The BWAA President Jack Hirsch explained that Pacquiao had more dominating victories from 2000 to 2009 such as his KO wins over Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

‚ÄúPacquiao ain’t no f***ing fighter of the decade. He is a p**sy,‚Äù Floyd Sr. told Percy Crawford of FightHype.com.
“Pacquiao has 2 draws and a loss in this decade. Lil Floyd is undefeated in this decade and in his career,” argued the elder Mayweather.
Pacquiao has a 7-division world champion has 51 wins (with 38 knockouts), 3 losses and 2 draws.

The undefeatedFloyd Jr. of the United States has 41 victories with 25 knockouts. Floyd Sr. went on to ask what would happen if Mayweather defeats Pacquiao in their possible showdown which is being negotiated by Top Rank, Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions.
He said, “What award they gonna give my son when he whoops Pacquiao?” Trainer Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao. The fight was very close according to Golden Boy Production, and we will all see the action this November.

Mayweather vs. Mosley is On

Finally, the negotiation between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Shane “Sugar” Mosley comes into a positive conclusion. Both camps had agreed into terms, and the Mayweather vs. Mosley fight is set on May 1, 2010 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather vs. Mosley come into being because of the failed negotiation regarding the drug testing issue on the supposed Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight. Manny Pacquiao had moved on and pick Joshua Clottey.

“Sugar‚Äù Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have reportedly agreed to terms to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title, according to a report by ESPN.com.

“Shane has signed. I sat with him [Friday] and we went through every provision of the contract and he signed,” Mosley’s attorney Judd Burstein told ESPN.com. “He is excited to move forward with the bout.”

Mosley reportedly agreed to undergo random blood and urine testing, as has Mayweather.

The Mosley-Mayweather fight came into fore after talks for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight collapsed due to Floyd’s drug test demands.

Mosley was supposed to face Haiti’s Andre Berto in a title-unification match, but Berto was forced to pull out after some of his family members were killed in the earthquake in Haiti.

Meanwhile, the Pacquiao vs. Clottey match is set to roll on March 13.
