by admin, on Fri, Nov 6 2009 | No Comments

bloody cottoThere are so many speculations about the upcoming Pacquiao vs Cotto: Firepower fight. In the first two episodes of Pacquiao-Cotto 24/7, both camps are so confident in winning. Coach Freddie Roach is predicting knock-out in favor of Pacquiao. On the other hand, Miguel Cotto camp is also predicting knock-out in favor of Cotto.

It is true that Manny Pacquiao has speed and power, but Cotto is a veteran fighter and he had fought bigger and more formidable opponent in the past. Let’s look into the advantage of Miguel Cotto over Manny Pacquiao.

1.¬† Cotto Trains Harder. As we see in Pacquiao-Cotto 24/7, Cotto have more regimented training for this fight. While Manny Pacquiao busy schedule on shooting TV commercials, movies, interviews, politics and others stuffs, Miguel Cotto camp is training like a dog. He‚Äôs scheduled train months in preparation for Pacquiao vs Cotto: Fire Power fight, while Pacman trainer Freddie Roach schedules only an eight-week regimen in preparation for their November 14 fight. Plus, the two typhoons that plagued Philippines affected Pacquiao‚Äôs training. The extra-training could help a lot in boosting Cotto’s stamina.

2.  Cotto is much bigger. Cotto is bigger and taller than Pacquiao. A smaller fighter with explosive tendencies can find out that the bigger opponent is used to that kind of power. If he could fight Antonio Margarito who stands 5 feet 11 inches, smaller boxers like Pacquiao (standing 5’6”) will be less threatening.

3.¬† Superb ability in trapping and cornering. In his previous fights, Cotto demonstrate his brilliant skill and power to pressure his opponent. This pressure forces his opponent to trapped and cornered in the ropes. Cotto unloads power combinations when he successfully traps his opponent, and the Puerto Rican has the footwork to effectively cut off the ring. Even when Clottey blocked Cotto’s relentless barrage, he became noticeably worn down.

4.  Cotto has fought and beaten larger and faster opponents. Cotto had fought boxers like Mosley, Quintana, Clottey, Judah, Torres and Margarito. Some of those mentioned boxers’ are known for their strength and speed. Cotto out-boxed the speedy and powerful Mosley, and outclassed the quick Judah.

On the next post we will discuss Manny Pacquiao advantage over Miguel Cotto.

On the other hand, in Cotto’s camp, the team rises well before sunrise to begin training. Miguel Cotto’s son is also with the group now. Cotto does fast paced laps around a track in the dark as the rest of the team watches on. Even though the focus is on training, on a beautiful Sunday morning in Florida, the team heads to a golf course to relax a bit.

Both camps designate times for strenuous work and times for lighthearted play, but there are countless distractions in Pacquiao’s corner which Cotto seems to have deliberately avoided by restricting the number of people that accompany him and by choosing an isolated location for his training. The end of episode shows Manny Pacquiao team arrives in Los Angeles to train for the upcoming fight.
