UAAP archrivals for 76th season title fight

courtesy of philstar.comThe growling tigers men’s basketball team has been slumbering for so many years that the other universities’ squads have fought and claimed the championship crown.

The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) snatched up the win last year leaving the Tigers grounded in the insurmountable flight of the Blue Eagles. Coach Norman Black did his homework. Their win his magnum opus. The Tigers undoubtedly obliged to sharpen their dull claws for the next year’s hunt.

Being a Thomasian has been so memorable (asides from my sleepless nights doing seemingly endless plates for my Architectural Design subject) but also of the four successive years of my alma mater’s win at the UAAP men’s basketball. That was a 4-peat victory from 1993-1997. It was as always the Archers preying on the elusive feline. I even had the chance to support the Tigers at the then known Araneta Coliseum as we cheer the infamous “black gold, black white” battle cry versus DLSU’s “animo La Salle.”

And here once again, the legendary rivalry is set to finish it off this coming weekend (October 12) at SM Mall of Asia for the 3rd and decisive win.

The UAAP 76th season championship is so historic (as every season is). First, it is one of the most awaited match between old rivals. Second, Teng vs.Teng. (Jeric and Jeron) – two brothers from distinct universities playing against each other.

Who do you think will win? For me, it doesn’t matter so long as they give us one hell of a sports spectacle.
