The Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Dream Fight is Officially Cancelled?

There are a lot talks about the cancellation of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather dream fight, there have been a lot of push and pull about many issues most particularly the drug testing issue. There are so many speculations whether the supposed to be fight of the decade will push through or not. Until now there is no official statement from both camps about the official cancellation.

On the report released today by Philippine Star, the hopes of salvaging the megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are slim after American promoter Bob Arum’s”final counter offer” was quickly turned down by Mayweather’s chief adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, and negotiator, Richard Schaefer.

Bob Arum had given the Mayweather camp until Monday to decide on his final proposal that both parties let the Nevada State Athletic Commission to make the final decision on the blood tests issue.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Arum suggested that both sides explain to the NSAC why their “preferred (blood) testing system” should be used or followed, and let the Nevada body make the final decision.

Mayweather camp wanted an Olympic-style blood testing to be supervised by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Under the set-up, both fighters should agree to as many as five blood and 12 urine tests Рrandomly. While, the Pacquiao camp said there’s no need for such testing, and has agreed to three blood tests (one on the first week of January, then 30 days before the match and another after the match, but was again unacceptable to Mayweather.

According to Arum, “We are prepared to have this handled in a way that is not us deciding or them deciding. The commission meets on Jan. 19. Mayweather’s people can say why they believe additional testing above what we agreed to as necessary and we can give our viewpoint.”

“Let the commission decide. If they come away and decide Manny needs to be blood tested every single [expletive] day, then we will go with that. This is the way to go to give this thing legitimacy. I hope they [Team Mayweather] see reason.”

And if the Mayweathers still disagree with the commission decision, the Top Rank president said he could seal a Pacquiao fight with Paulie Malignaggi on March 13 “within an hour.”

Well, I guess that means we have to wait until January 19 to see if the megafight will happen or not.

  1. I hope that this cancellation of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather dream fight is not final, there have been a lot of push and pull about many issues most particularly the drug testing issue. I hoped that both fighters have agreed whatever agreements it is. The dream match of all boxing fans waiting for so long will continue. I think the fighters should not decide what kind of testing will be implement before or after the fight, let the Nevada body make the final decision.

  2. Totally disappointment. I’m really disappointment about what happened. The negotiations didn’t work. Despite the help of a former judge Daniel Weinstein, because of that stupid drug testing issues demanded by mayweather’s camp. The questions right now by all boxing fans around the world is when we going to see this mega fight? Manny is not getting younger neither mayweather. And Manny said this will be his last fight and then after that his gonna retire. Well, let’s hoped that this mega fight will happen as soon as possible. Thanks to Pinoy Gigs for your Info. Live well boxing fans. Chow!
