Pacquiao vs. Clottey Match Will Help Haiti Earthquake Victims
Help for the earthquake-ravaged Haiti is now flowing from US and all over the world. The US sports are now joining in full force to aid the victims of the disastrous earthquake that devastates Haiti. Last Friday, Top Rank chief Bob Arum pledges a share of ticket sales of Pacquiao vs. Clottey match to relief efforts to Haiti.
Bob Arum said that the Top Rank Promotions would donate one dollar from every ticket it sells through the end of the year to aid for Haiti. The plan will start with a featherweight card at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, where a turnout of about 5,000 is expected.
The Saturday match number is small but Bob Arum is expecting a huge amount on the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight on March 13.
“For a fight like this, it might be a few thousand, but for March 13 it could be 40 or 50,000,” Arum said.
The facility, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, is being configured for 40,000 fans, but can seat more depending on demand.
Arum said he wasn’t sure how many tickets will be sold the rest of the year because there is no accurate way to predict how many shows will be put together, who will headline the shows and where they will take place.
“Hopefully, other promoters will join us,” he said.
Boxing has been affected by the quake that rocked Haiti on January 12. The official death toll as of Friday was put at more than 110,000.
