Pinay Won First Runner Up in 2010 Supermodel of The World Search
Charlene Louise “Chat” Alagon Almarvez, a young Pinay who will be turning 17 on January 25 won First Runner Up in one of the most prestigious modeling search in the world, the Supermodel of the World. The search was held in Sao Paulo Brazil over the weekend, and got a US$150,000 modeling contract from Ford Models NYC.
Chat is one of the few Pinay who is a living and breathing skyscraper at 5′9½. She is a freshman student in De La Salle College of Saint Benilde taking up Business Administration. She was discovered during a Santacruzan in Laguna. With just a couple of months experience in modeling, she tried her luck and won the Supermodel Philippines search during the Philippine Fashion Week in October 2009.
Other winners in 2010 Supermodel of the World are Karlina of Latvia (Grand Winner), Isabelle of Sweden (Second Runner Up), Olivia of USA (Third Runner Up), Maryna of Belarus (Fourth Runner Up), Grace of Australia (Fifth Runner Up) and Bruna of Brazil (Sixth Runner Up).
The winners will be featured in the New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 next month. The Ford Models Supermodel of the World is the largest and most prestigious international modeling competition. Established by Eileen Ford in 1980, Supermodel of the World held its first event at the Sporting Club in Monaco.
Chat is the third Filipina to land in the Top 5 of the Supermodel search, the others were Melanie Marquez (first runner-up) in 1986 and Charo Ronquillo (second runner-up) in 2006.
