Manny Pacquiao has once again proved his status as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world as he beat Joshua Clottey on a dominant unanimous decision on the “Pacquiao vs. Clottey: The Event” match Saturday night in Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Pacquiao keep hold of his WBO welterweight championship in a fight that was rather dull most of the time because Pacquiao keep dominating the fight and Clottey is so passive in most of the rounds. It seems like there is only one boxer on the ring. Clottey focused so much on covering up and defending himself which causes lack of exchange on the entire fight.

In quick summary, it was a one-sided fight with Pacquiao dominating from start to finish.

The judges scored it 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 for Pacquiao’s unanimous win.

“It was not an easy fight,” Pacquiao said afterward in the interview. “It was hard. He’s a very tough fighter. I can’t believe it.”

Pacquiao might not have felt it was easy, but it sure looked easy. The question now is whether Pacquiao, who improved his record to 51-3-2, will finally get together with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and give boxing fans around the world the fight they want to see. Clottey, who fell to 35-4, simply isn’t a good enough opponent to for the Pinoy champ who continues to show the world what kind of boxer he is.

Congratulations Manny!

Defending WBO Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and his opponent, Ghanian Joshua Clottey weighed in on March 12, 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The weigh in is filled with so much fanfare.
Both boxers is within the weight limit. The champion Manny Pacquiao, came in at 145¾ while the challenger Joshua Clottey hits the limit with 147.

The Pinoy front man of the popular rock band “Journey” left Manila last Thursday evening, on the way to Dallas, Texas to sing the Philippine national anthem in the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Clottey Fight which is schedule to happen on March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Pineda vows to do his best to stay true to the correct rendition of the Philippine anthem to avoid receiving a reprimand letter from the National Historical Institute (NHI). he National Historical Institute have called the attention of Charice, Christian Bautista, and Jennifer Bautista, who also sang “Lupang Hinirang” in incorrect renditions of the national anthem in the previous Pacquiao fights.

On the interview the Pinoy international rock star said, “Ang sa akin ay kakantahin ko ito sa paraan na alam kong magugustuhan ng mga Filipino, bata man o matanda.”

“Ito ang pambansang awit natin I have to make sure na maganda ang pagkaka-awit natin,” he added.

The proper way of singing “Lupang Hinirang” became a big issue following the “incorrect” rendition of the national anthem by Martin Nievera during the May 2, 2009 fight of Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas.

According to Section 37 of Republic Act (RA) 8491, the rendition of the national anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.

Section 20 of the law also states: “The rendition of the flag ceremony in official or civic gatherings shall be simple and dignified and shall include the playing or singing of the anthem in its original Filipino lyrics and march tempo.”
RA 8491 prescribes that any person who will violate its provisions may be punished by a fine of at least P20,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year.

Let’s just hope and pray that Arnel will hit the “correct” notes and Pacquiao hit Clottey down. The Pacquiao vs. Clottey can viewed via PPV or you watch Pacquiao vs. Clottey online on this site.

Reynaldo Mapagu took oath today (March 12) as the 52nd commanding general of the Philippine Army taking over Gen. Delfin Bangit, who took his oath as armed forces chief of staff on Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Mapagu and Gen. Bangit are both members Makatarungan PMA Class of 1978, of which President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is an adopted member.

In his speech, the new chief of Philippines Armycited his predecessors’ achievements and promised to continue their projects.

Both Bangit and Mapagu vowed the military will push for clean and credible elections in May.

“For our part, rest assured we shall persevere to fully accomplish our internal security operations mandate to reduce insurgency to an inconsequential level across country. We shall endeavor to ensure orderly, peaceful and more importantly, honest and credible elections this coming May. We will do all these so that people can focus on the more urgent goal of national development and economic prosperity,” Mapagu said.

There have been rumors that the Arroyo administration will use PMA Class 1978 to cheat in the elections. The rumors were boosted by the appointment of its members to sensitive positions in the military.

Seven of the 10 Army divisions are being held by members of the same class.

Just like Bangit, Mapagu was also appointed to a top military post ahead of their upperclassmen in the PMA.
Mapagu had also served as Scout Ranger commander and replaced General Danny Lim who was detained after leading the Fort Bonifacio standoff in February 2006.

Mapagu was also chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-National Capital Region (AFP-NCR) command.

Bill Gates is replaced by the Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim as the world’s richest person in the world.

Carlos Slim is a Mexican engineer and businessman largely focused on the telecommunications industry. Carlos Slim has a net worth of around US$53.5 billion through his holdings. He was able to raise money for a telecommunications company by purchasing standby letters of credit which enabled him to obtain guaranteed loans which provided the capital.

Slim has a substantial influence over the telecommunications industry in Mexico and much of Latin America. He controls Teléfonos de México (Telmex), Telcel and América Móvil companies. Though he maintains an active involvement in his companies, his three sons — Carlos, Marco Antonio and Patrick Slim Domit — head them on a day-to-day basis.

Mr. Slim is the first person other than Mr. Gates or Mr. Buffett to top the list since 1994. That year was the last time a billionaire from outside the United States led the ranking — the Japanese real estate tycoon Yoshiaki Tsutsumi.
It is only the second time since 1995 that Gates has lost the crown, the magazine said, and estimating Slim’s net worth at $53.5 billion, compared to Gates’s $53 billion fortune, while investor Warren Buffett came in at No. 3 with $47 billion.

Completing the top 10 richest person in the world are Mukesh Ambani of India at No. 4, Lakshmi Mittal (India) at No. 5, Lawrence Ellison (United States) at No. 6, Bernard Arnault (France) at No. 7, Eike Batista (Brazil) at No. 8, Amancio Ortega (Spain) at No. 9 and Karl Albrecht (Germany) at number 10 spot.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is still the world’s youngest with a $4 billion fortune at the age of 25.

Boxing critics and aficionado says that this fight will be a battle of furious offense versus the clam shell defense. In the boxing world, Manny Pacquiao is known for his speed and skills in offense whereas Joshua Clottey is known as one of the best defensive fighter. The Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight is predicted to be a showcase of best offense and best defense moves in boxing history.

The team Clottey said that the Ghanaian boxer had perfected his clamshell defense to close down Pacquiao. Clottey is going to end up shutting Pacquiao down completely the same way that Winky Wright shut down Felix Trinidad years ago, sending him into retirement. Clottey (35-3) is known for blocking punches. In his entire career the 32-year-old Ghana native also has never been knocked out — he’s been knocked down only once.

But Pacquiao’s long time coach Freddie Roach says, “Blocking punches doesn’t win fights. I think we can stop him in the late rounds. The accumulation of punches he’ll be taking in this fight he’s never seen before. … I don’t think he’ll be able to handle it.”

Clottey is bigger and taller than Pacquiao but like in Pacquiao’s previous fights opposite bigger opponents such as Oscar De La Hoyo, Ricky Hatton, and Cotto Roach said speed and skill will again proved to be the big difference.

Both boxers vows to give their best punches to offer the fans the most interesting fights they have seen. The Event can be watch in PPV or you can watch Pacquiao vs. Clottey online.

The 7-division champ charters a private 170-seater plane to take his whole entourage to Dallas, Texas where his fight against the Ghanaian boxer Joshua Clottey will take place. Manny Pacquiao took a flight from his training base in Los Angeles, California last Monday on “Air Pacquiao.”

The plane, which has a big photograph of Pacquiao on its door, carried the logo: “Air Pacquiao”. Even some of the items inside the plane had the logo.

The boxer even sat in the cockpit, playing “pilot” complete with uniform.

When asked why he decided to charter a plane, Pacquiao said: “Gusto ko, sama-sama lahat.” He even brought along his dog, Pacman.

Some of the local media covering the event could not help but be impressed with Pacquiao’s “new mode of transportation”.

Traditionally, Pacquiao takes a convoy from Los Angeles to the site where the fight takes place. However, Dallas is 1251 miles (2014 kilometers) away from Los Angeles.

The pound-for-pound king was mobbed by the press shortly after his arrival at the Dallas Forth Worth Texas Airport at around 10 p.m. on Monday.

After a short meeting with the press, Pacquiao boarded a special utility vehicle on his way to the Gaylord Luxury Hotel where he was met by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

The Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight will will take place at Cowboys Stadium on Dallas, Texas on March 13, 2010 (March 14 on Philippine Time). You can also watch Pacquiao vs. Clottey online on this site.
Officials said that quake aftershocks continued for hours while rescuers searched for trapped survivors.

The 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck at 4:32 am local time in a lightly-populated area of high steppe in Eastern Anatolia. Villagers were sleeping in their mud-brick houses when the earthquake occurs.

“There was a lot of fear and panic among the people. It lasted about a minute,” Nursel Sengezer, a Dogan News Agency correspondent in Elazig province, told broadcaster CNN Turk.

“We felt it very strongly and everyone tried to get out onto the street.”

After the major shake on Monday, families huddled in the open around fires lit to keep them warm, as the ground shook with more than 40 aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 5.5.

The quake toppled the minarets of three mosques in stricken villages in the Basyurt region of Elazig, according to provincial governor Muammer Erol.

Paramilitary and police directed operations on the outskirts of affected villages, where crowds had gathered, and a Red Crescent team had reached the area and set up a crisis centre.

Health Minister Recep Akdag, who had travelled to Elazig along with Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek, put the death toll at 51, revising the figure from 57 given earlier by officials.

Turkey is criss-crossed with faultlines and frequently suffers earthquakes. A large earthquake measuring 7.4 killed about 18,000 people in August 1999.
