Enlightened rather than amazed with Spiderman reboot
I got the chance to see the newest reboot of our favorite web-slinger superhero on its last stretch on Philippine cinemas. DC Comic’s “Batman” aka the Dark Knight has taken the spotlight, summoning more patrons to view the conclusion of Chris Nolan’s caped crusader trilogy. I took advantage of this moment just to make sure I could get a good seat for my once-in-a-blue-moon movie house visit.
I was all too familiar with Toby Maguire’s spidey trilogy yet somehow I was more intrigued with how Andrew Garfield (The Social Network’s “Eduardo”)will play the part. Other than a change in actor, the look and feel of the whole film package has imposed somewhat a better close-to-reality presence for the viewers. What’s more notable is the accuracy of the plot as being tagged as the “untold story” which is said to be closely based on the comics created by Stan Lee.
The plot of the film has focused more on the beginnings of Spiderman and has showcased more of the true personality when Peter Parker was a high school student – low-leveled, science geek, an average school kid.
It is also evident that fewer CGIs were used throughout the film to maintain the natural environment and realism in its essence. Despite this lack in digital enhancement, the movie came out pretty impressively making spidey more of a kick-ass hero rather than an eye-catching costumed character.
Parts of the film did some reference to the previous set and did not shun away from the basics of the Spiderman film. How he came to be as a masked hero thru his uncle Ben’s death is still present in the movie only how the events took place made it more perceivable than before. Notable in this version is its objective to correct the flaws of the story on the previous entrees. His love interest and his heroic developments where mostly featured on this reboot. Also, a fearsomee arch enemy (said to be his original) has been set to challenge the humble beginnings of our protagonist.
Amazing would be a description more applicable to its predecessors. Enlightening would best fit to describe this recent spidey motion picture.
As always, do not forget to watch out for bonus scenes during the film credits.
