In the recently concluded World 9 Ball Championships which has been held in Doha, Qatar, Filipino champs when it comes to pool emerge victorious. This was vividly proved when 17 out 64 finalist were all Filipinos and all vied for the championship title.

Antonio Gabica, Caneda Villamor, Roberto Gomez, Venancio Tanio, Joven Alba, Israel Rota, Lee Van Corteza, Ronnie Alcano, and Raymond Faraon were once in the loser’s bracket and battled to be able to qualify in the championship level. These nine masters joined the eight Pinoy who already advanced in the championship after winning the first two group matches.

Among the eighteen representatives sent, a lone player looses in a most heart breaking winning. Francisco Olita loosed to Soheil Vahedi of Iran in an 8-9 score standing. If Olita has made it way to victory, Philippines would have perfect the total 18 Pinoys in the finals.

Others advanced in the next level while some of them were ousted in the track.

Some of the famous names who were in the game are Niels Feijen of the Netherlands, American Shane Van Boening, England’s Darren Appleton, last year’s runner-up Kuo Po Cheng of Chinese Taipei, and Germany’s Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Souquet.

What is more shocking and trivial during the game is when Wu Jiaqing of China looses to Mariusz Skoneczy. Wu was a former champion of the game but given the title when he misses a very easy shot on the 8th ball on the 17th deciding match.
