Pacquiao Offense versus Clottey Defense

Just three more days to go before the much awaited Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight and the both boxers are all ready for the fight billed as “The Event” at the $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium at Dallas, Texas.

Boxing critics and aficionado says that this fight will be a battle of furious offense versus the clam shell defense. In the boxing world, Manny Pacquiao is known for his speed and skills in offense whereas Joshua Clottey is known as one of the best defensive fighter. The Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight is predicted to be a showcase of best offense and best defense moves in boxing history.

The team Clottey said that the Ghanaian boxer had perfected his clamshell defense to close down Pacquiao. Clottey is going to end up shutting Pacquiao down completely the same way that Winky Wright shut down Felix Trinidad years ago, sending him into retirement. Clottey (35-3) is known for blocking punches. In his entire career the 32-year-old Ghana native also has never been knocked out — he’s been knocked down only once.

But Pacquiao’s long time coach Freddie Roach says, “Blocking punches doesn’t win fights. I think we can stop him in the late rounds. The accumulation of punches he’ll be taking in this fight he’s never seen before. … I don’t think he’ll be able to handle it.”

Clottey is bigger and taller than Pacquiao but like in Pacquiao’s previous fights opposite bigger opponents such as Oscar De La Hoyo, Ricky Hatton, and Cotto Roach said speed and skill will again proved to be the big difference.

Both boxers vows to give their best punches to offer the fans the most interesting fights they have seen. The Event can be watch in PPV or you can watch Pacquiao vs. Clottey online.

The 7-division champ charters a private 170-seater plane to take his whole entourage to Dallas, Texas where his fight against the Ghanaian boxer Joshua Clottey will take place. Manny Pacquiao took a flight from his training base in Los Angeles, California last Monday on “Air Pacquiao.”

The plane, which has a big photograph of Pacquiao on its door, carried the logo: “Air Pacquiao”. Even some of the items inside the plane had the logo.

The boxer even sat in the cockpit, playing “pilot” complete with uniform.

When asked why he decided to charter a plane, Pacquiao said: “Gusto ko, sama-sama lahat.” He even brought along his dog, Pacman.

Some of the local media covering the event could not help but be impressed with Pacquiao’s “new mode of transportation”.

Traditionally, Pacquiao takes a convoy from Los Angeles to the site where the fight takes place. However, Dallas is 1251 miles (2014 kilometers) away from Los Angeles.

The pound-for-pound king was mobbed by the press shortly after his arrival at the Dallas Forth Worth Texas Airport at around 10 p.m. on Monday.

After a short meeting with the press, Pacquiao boarded a special utility vehicle on his way to the Gaylord Luxury Hotel where he was met by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

The Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight will will take place at Cowboys Stadium on Dallas, Texas on March 13, 2010 (March 14 on Philippine Time). You can also watch Pacquiao vs. Clottey online on this site.

Mayweather Thrash Mosley with Drug Issues Too

by admin, on Wed, Mar 3 2010 | No Comments

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not yet finish with the drug testing issues with Manny Pacquiao; he also trashes Shane Mosley with it. The undefeated boxer brought up Mosley’s doping history during the press conference for the Mayweather vs. Mosley held at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, New York City.

Mayweather quoted in Associated Press, “I can’t say how many fights Shane has won in the past because we know Shane was using enhancement drugs. That’s something we do know.”

“It’s no different than Pacquiao. I offered Pacquiao the fight. I said, ‘We’ll give you $25 million.’ I never met a man who wouldn’t take a $25 million drug test,” continued Mayweather.

Mosley admitted to taking steroids “unknowingly” in 2003 after being forced by a former strength and conditioning coach to do so as part of his training. Although Mosley did not react to Mayweather’s statement, the boxers still had a minor scuffle during the press conference which prompted their team members to intervene.

On previous interviews, Mosley said that he doesn’t care what Mayweather talks. All he cares is the money he could win from the match and the chance to fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather was supposed to fight Pacquiao on March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada but negotiations did not push through because of the drug testing issue. The Pinoy boxer opted to fight Joshua Clottey instead. The Pacquiao vs. Clottey is scheduled on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

On the other hand, Mayweather takes on Mosley who supposed to fight against the Haitian boxer Andre Berto last January but it did not push through because Berto’s family was affected by the devastating earthquake occurred in Haiti.

Pacquiao has still Mayweather on mind

by admin, on Tue, Mar 2 2010 | No Comments

Despite of his intense training for the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight, the pound-for-pound for king still has Floyd Mayweather Jr., on his mind, says Pacquiao’s long time coach Freddie Roach.

“I saw Manny, sometimes when he’s shadow boxing, he shows me how Mayweather fights and how he’s going to take case of the problem,” Roach told FightHype.com.

The trainer said this somehow shows that Pacquiao is preparing himself mentally against Mayweather.
“I’ve never seen Manny do that before,” he said. “Manny really wants to fight him in the future because of the remarks he (Mayweather) made.”

It is a clear indication that Manny Pacquiao still wants to take Mayweather down. Mayweather’s demand made it look as if the Filipino boxer has been taking performance enhancing drugs still somehow angered Pacquiao.

“We’re not happy with his (Mayweather) remarks,” said Roach.

Meanwhile, Roach predicted that the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight would not reach into 12 rounds. “The beginning of the fight is going to be hard. He’s (Clottey) a very good opponent and likes to fight, but we will break him down, and I’m very confident the fight won’t go 12 rounds,” said Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach.

Manny Pacquiao, the only boxer to win 7 world titles in 7 different weight divisions, will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown against the Ghanian boxer Joshua Clottey at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas on March 13.
