The former Vice President of the United States Al Gore will come to the Philippines on April 30, 2010 to present his controversial and multi-awarded documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” Al Gore had created an Asian version of the influential documentary that shocks the world.
Al Gore will be coming over to Manila to personally present the Asian version of the thought-provoking multimedia presentation that tackled the threat posed by climate change. He will be at the SMX Convention Center in the SM Mall of Asia Complex on April 30, 2010 for the event called “Al Gore: The Leader As Environment Steward.”
The former US vice president is also scheduled to keynote the Leadership Conference Series 3, a round of lectures organized for top leaders from the academe, business, government and non-government sectors to learn from the experience and expertise of global leaders.
“We have always been committed to environmental preservation. Beyond our many environmental programs, we feel that we can further spread the advocacy by having more people learn about this global problem and how it impacts each and every one of us,” SM Prime Holdings President Hans Sy said in a statement.
“This is why we are bringing in the world’s most influential authority on climate change. We want the urgency of his message to be heard by Filipino leaders, as well as by Filipinos in general,” he added.
Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for “An Inconvenient Truth.” He also becomes the runner-up for Time Magazine’s 2007 Person of the Year.

Five members of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Cabinet including Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera, Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya, Presidential Management Staff chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr., and and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco Jr. tended their resignation to the president in preparation for the May 10 elections.
Sec. Ermita who is vying for the congressional seat in Batangas, announced this a day after Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. submitted his resignation letter to the President in compliance with the SC decision. Andaya, who was appointed budget secretary in 2006, is also a congressional bet in Camarines Sur.
Esperon, a former military chief now running for congressman in Pangasinan, also quit his post the same day as Ermita. Director of TESDA Boboy Syjuco likewise filed his resignation letter Thursday while Devanadera submitted hers last Wednesday. Syjuco is eyeing a congressional seat in Iloilo while Devanadera is running for congresswoman in Quezon province.
“We are submitting our resignation. It depends on the final decision of the President,” Ermita told reporters.
As of now, the four outgoing Cabinet members are wrapping up the affairs in their respective departments as the campaign period for local candidates draws near.
Ermita said that they cannot be accused of electioneering since they only become official candidates once the campaign season for local bets starts which is on March 26. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier warned appointed government officials joining the May polls that they run the risk of being charged with electioneering if they do not quit.
Two other Cabinet secretaries are expected to file their resignation next week – Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez. Sec. Yap is eyeing the congressional seat in Bohol while Raul Gonzalez is a mayoral bet in Iloilo City.
