The ASAP Sessionistas will be jamming with their U.S base fans on their upcoming “Sessionistas Live in US Concert Tour.” ASAP Sessionistas is composed of six individual pop acts. They are the “Soul Siren” and now diamond record awardee Nina, the acoustic dou MYMP, RnB master Duncan Ramos, Fil-Chinese crooner Richard Poon, bossa nova queen Sitti Navarro and Asia’s acoustic sensation Aiza Seguerra.

Sessionista refers to musicians who are so good in their craft that they’re always hired to play in recording “sessions” for other artists’ albums. On ABS-CBN’s Sunday TV show “ASAP,” it has been adopted as the collective name of six individual pop acts (MYMP, Nina, Poon, Sitti, Ramos, and Seguerra), who perform together in a fixed segment.

Last August the ASAP Sessionistas set a major concert at the Araneta Coliseum. And now the ASAP Sessionistas are all set for a series concert in U.S this coming November. Fans and supporters of the Sessionistas will have the time of their lives as their idols, in one force, perform their favorite songs from different genres.

Rowena Vilar as Carmen

Rowena Vilar as Carmen

The Filipina actress Rowena Vilar has clinched the role of Carmen in the Fame The Musical. Carmen is the female lead character in Fame The Musical which was staged for a decade in London’s West End and has been seen by more than 10 million audience worldwide.

Fame The Musical is scheduled to open on April 28, 2010 in Australia. Rowena Vilar’s name is prominent in Philippine theatre. She is the same girl who played the role of Anita in West Side Story. Her portrayal of the role had wowed the audience in Meralco Theatre last year, particularly with her triple-treat performance of the song America.
Rowena has also worked with Hugh Jackman in Boy From Oz and was part of the ensemble of the Miss Saigon Australia touring company.

It’s actually a double victory for the Philippines because another Filipina, in the person of Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (granddaughter of Sylvia La Torre), got the same role in the musical’s Hollywood remake. For those who are not familiar with Anna Maria, she is the same girl who played the role of Ella in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2.

Together with Rowena Vilar, Rebecca Mendoza will also be joining the Fame. Rebecca is a prominent Australian-Filipina in Australian entertainment cast as the ballet teacher. Rebecca was also a part of the Miss Saigon cast with Joanna Ampil (another Filipina, as Kim) in the Sydney run as well as The Lord of the Rings Musical.

Fame The Musical will kick off with a national tour at Melbourne’s Regent Theater on April 18, open in Brisbane at the Lyric Theatre QPAC on June 20 and in Sydney in early September 2010. For Pinoy’s in Australia, it is now your chance to witness the extraordinary talent of our kababayan.
