Pacquaio-Mayweather bout not possible this year

by xarki, on Mon, Feb 6 2012 | 1 Comment

courtesy of boxingsocialist.comFloyd Mayweather Jr. announced in Las Vegas last Wednesday (February 1, 2012) that he will be fighting Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico instead of Manny Pacquaio. The match will take place on the 5th of May.

With this news, the much sought-after boxing match between our very own boxing champ Pacquaio and Mayweather will no longer take place even before November of this year.

Instead, Mayweather will step up from the welterweight rank and fight for the super welterweight title which is currently being held by Cotto, a few weeks before he serves his 9-day jail sentence.

“Miguel Cotto is a world class fighter who can never be taken for granted and continues to prove he is one of the best in boxing,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather did not agree with Pacquiao’s deal to have the fight setup on June in order to maximize profits for the greatest boxing showdown in history.

Currently, the “People’s Champ” is still on the verge of deciding whom to fight this coming May or June. There is some unofficial news of a possible announcement this coming week.

So sorry Pinoy boxing fans! We really don’t know if Mayweather is trying to evade the challenge of facing our pound-for-pound fighter. Only through that possible match-up can we finally determine if Mayweather can really defeat the Pacman.

I wonder what will Mayweather do this time to defeat Cotto? Most of us still remember the controversial victory of this guy after landing a punch to a distracted contender. Still, we have high hopes of seeing this guy fall because of his nonsense blabbering.

Unusual marketing for the Bellagio

by xarki, on Mon, Feb 6 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of newsinfo.inquirer.netChief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial is one of the greatest turning points in Philippine history. This is the first trial to ever put a Supreme Court chief justice in question. Also it is regarded as the primary trial done by senator judges in our country- the reason why the whole nation is all eyes and ears to the developments of this legal proceeding.

One of the controversial issues being thrown at Corona is the ownership of a penthouse unit on one of the prestigious condos in Taguig – the Bellagio I. The Corona spouses were questioned about their capacity to purchase such a million peso space which has consequently forced them to produce documents that will negate the prosecution’s claims.

Their SALN (Statement of Assets and Liabilities Networth) has shown that they may have not declared the ownership and purchase of this property so this can be used against them for another possible case of tax evasion.

For several days, the impeachment trial has focused on the issue of Corona’s questionable ownership of this expensive property that has called upon the testimonies of the corporate people in the realty business who has sold the unit to the family particularly Megaworld. Numerous discounts whatsoever have been presented as proof by its Business Marketing CEO as to the acquisition of the said condo unit though many are still in doubt on the present answers.

As the impeachment case seems to be a promising long term TV show, CJ Corona’s penthouse unit in Bellagio I can be seen with more than hundreds of people taking pictures of the 38-floor condo space.

The developers and marketing firm of the Bellagio should now be more than thankful to CJ Corona for paving the way of advertising their now famed residential tower. Definitely the price of the Bellagio units will go up considerably.

Consider re-purposing used motor oils

by xarki, on Mon, Feb 6 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of sjgov.orgI just had one of our family cars’ engine oil replaced as a periodic maintenance to keep our vehicles in tip-top shape. Considering we have three (3) vehicles at our home and each year we amount to 3-4 times of oil change for each car with almost 4 gallons of oil removed each time. Imagine that we are dumping 16 gallons of used oil for each car.

Used oil is toxic for the environment. Dumping used oil in our garbage bins or in the soil does not reduce the negative effects of sustaining even plant life as they may seep into our water tables.

I believe most of us who do our own oil change would end up stacking large cans of these used oils in our garages or even just leaving them lying around our backyard – waiting for them to be reused for any possible household application which more often than not, will not be done.

It is good to know that used engine oil can be recycled by re-refining it, reconditioning or re-processing.

Re-refining used engine oil is now possible provided that a proper and modern way of processing can treat used motor oils for them to be used as a base stock to create “new” engine oil. However, the demand for these products is currently not that significant in the market, making it hard for manufacturers to consider undertaking the process.

Used oil can also be reconditioned or cleaned by removing insoluble impurities present so the oil can be used again and again, yet the cleaning process will not likely restore the original quality of the oil. However, it can still aid in lubricating tasks using additives thus extending the oil’s life and purpose.

Used oil is one of the industrial wastes that we have to consider since majority of the population is using cars in their daily activities. I hope we can find a way to lessen the dumping of used motor oils so we can sustain life even with the presence of our cool rides.

A cheap way to organize cables

by xarki, on Thu, Feb 2 2012 | No Comments

courtesy of inquirer.netI am always bothered by the tangled and twisted cables that I frequently see at my home office. It has always been a cumbersome task for me to keep my workstation neat and clean, what with the endless eye sore of wires of various lengths and sizes.

For several years, I have always purchased commercially available cable organizers of various sorts. All of them did serve their purpose well but not as satisfying or cost effective for some people like me. Sometimes, I do end up using “rubber bands” in place of the retailed cable ties and organizers.

I like the way rubber bands give me the option to control how I would organize my wires and the idea of having a reusable yet cheap alternative is really a great idea. As we all know, rubber bands are not the best solution for this task. Its appearance and durability is still questionable thus can only serve as a temporary fix for the cable problem.

I came across an article in the newspaper where another office accessory can be used in place of a rubber band since it is sturdier to withstand the normal wear and tear. Guess what? Binder clips! I didn’t realize that these can be employed to serve as cable organizers and can even be customized and fashioned to look more aesthetically appealing to the eye.

Decorative stickers can be bought, cut out to shape thus pimping your ordinary black binder clips. You can also have your own design printed from your desktop computer to a photo sticker for better customization.

Binder clips can be mobile and repositioned anywhere you like it as long as it can have a firm grip on any surface you desire. The silver clip handles can be used to pass through the wires to keep them away from floors and from being stepped on or chewed by rodents or even your house pets.

This is one great idea we have here!

Internal head injuries puts 21 year old boxer in coma

by xarki, on Thu, Feb 2 2012 | No Comments

Boxing has always been one of the top notch contact sport we Filipinos wholeheartedly love. Having the “People’s Champ” Manny Pacquiao serves as a proof how we definitely embraced this type of sport but still we are never free from worrying of the danger that our fellowmen face when they engage in this hand-to-hand combat feat.

For some time I marveled on the sound created by the boxers as they try to land some punches on their opponents. It never crossed my mind that the swoosh sound is created due to the fast jab cutting through invisible air just like that but rather thought of it as a sound orchestrated by the fighter himself. It does prove how strong and painful if one uppercut hits your face.

Recently, a flyweight boxer suffered an internal head injury right after engaging on a boxing match. Carlo Maquinto is currently in a coma at the Far Eastern University Hospital in Fairview. He was rushed immediately to the hospital right after he collapsed while a “draw” decision was instantaneously announced.

Maquinto fought an 8-round match with Mark Joseph Acosta at the Recom Dome (Amparo Village, Caloocan) on Saturday, January 28, 2012 which is under the Gerry Penalosa promotions. Their fight is an undercard bout for the Penalosa Jr. versus Super James Singmanassak clash.

Everyone in the arena has confirmed that Carlo was in good condition throughout the fight.

According to the boxer’s kin, Maquinto has suffered some head injuries resulting to hematoma (blood clotting in the brain) that brought him to a coma state.

Currently, Carlo is in an inoperable condition. Surgery can only lead to his immediate demise.

Relatives of Maquinto are seeking all the prayers and support for his immediate recovery.

Our boxers are always in grave danger in each and every fight. I do hope our governing sports agencies can provide some way to help ensure the safety and welfare of our world class boxers.
